Ram quits as leader of India's opposition party

Jagjivan Ram resigned Wednesday as leader of India's opposition Janata Party, plunging it into a new crisis eight months after being voted out of power. The Press Trust of India news agency said the former defense minister submitted his resignation in a letter to the deputy leader of the Janata Party.
