British steelworkers agree to discuss new offer

Striking British steelworkers agreed to resume negotiations on Friday after management made a new pay offer in an attempt to end the five-week national stoppage.

Bill Sirs, leader of the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation, refused to say what the new offer from the British Steel Corporation entailed. "It was just enough to get us back to the negotiating table," he said, "but we still have a long way to go."
